Yoga has become a part of our way of life here at YOUR HEALTH Wellness Centre. If you are wondering “What is yoga?,” that’s a very good question that I can answer for you. Yoga is an ancient physical and spiritual discipline and branch of philosophy that’s origin was in India more than 5,000 years ago. Yoga uses controlled breathing as a way to merge the mind, body, and spirit. The breathing techniques are called pranayamas.

Yoga is an ancient physical and spiritual discipline and branch of philosophy that started in India more than 5,000 years ago. Yoga uses controlled breathing as a way to merge the mind, body, and spirit. The breathing techniques are called pranayamas; prana means energy or life force, and yama means social ethics. It is believed that the controlled breathing of pranayamas will control the energy flow in your body.

Yoga can make vast improvements in each participant’s health. It has done this in various aspects.

  • For starters, Yoga makes you more intelligent! This is done when you are breathing in and out slowly. This activates your brains pre-frontal cortex, your brain’s head office for higher thought!
  • Not only does it help your brain, it also serves as a stress reliever! It helps your adrenal glands slow down on the production of your body’s stress hormone which has been directly linked to cravings. This helps you with controlling those pesky cravings.
  • Also, yoga boosts your immune system! Making your body much more equipped to deal with the seasonal bugs!
