What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction. Reiki is a simple, natural, and effective form of energy work that facilitates relaxation, stress reduction, and feelings of well-being that can benefit everyone. It can be used along with all other forms of treatment and often helps relieve side effects and promotes recovery.

What is a Reiki treatment like?

The client, fully dressed, relaxes on a massage table. The practitioner’s hands are placed on or slightly above the body through several positions from head to toe. There is no manipulation of the skin or tissue. Reiki is not a massage.

Many individuals report feeling a tingling sensation, cold or heat, during a session, and most enter a calm, relaxed state. In some, chronic or acute pain can diminish or completely vanish. Sometimes allergies and other conditions completely disappear. It’s different for each person.

It’s important to remember that, whatever challenge we are experiencing, we did not get it ‘overnight’ and we are not likely to ‘recover overnight’, either. Reiki is not any more magical than any other modality or allopathic medicine. It takes time and commitment to enjoy long term benefits.

What can I expect after the treatment?

You should find yourself either very relaxed and feeling “lighter” or feeling re-energized. Allow yourself a few minutes to come fully back into your awareness. You may feel so relaxed that you are spaced-out. Whatever it is that you need, is what you will experience.

Be sure to drink lots of water as Reiki is very detoxifying. You should sleep very well.

It is not unusual for people to experience a mild natural detoxification as the body adjusts itself to the energy shift. It is recommended that you drink some extra water and/or herbal tea so that the toxins are flushed out more readily. You may want to rest more, so allow time for that. Doing some simple stretching exercises will help you feel grounded.

Most people feel an immediate improvement in their level of pain and energy. An overall feeling of well being may be experienced.

How often should I have a treatment?

Initially, three or four sessions over the first two weeks are recommended. This helps to remove deep-rooted blocks in your energy system. Thereafter, once a week or once every two weeks is recommended, until the issue has resolved. Usually a subtle improvement is noticed even after the first session. It may take five to six visits to notice a marked improvement. Dis-ease generally begins in the energy field so if we keep our subtle bodies healthy using Reiki, and our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to remain active and whole. Once the initial issue has resolved, most people like to have a Reiki session every 4-6 week, as part of their wellness regime.

How is Reiki a holistic approach to my well-being?

Reiki is a complimentary and not an alternative to your current medical plan. It is recommended that you continue with any medications you have been prescribed and continue to see your medical practitioner, or other holistic practitioners, unless you first speak with them personally. Reiki works in harmony and compliments all other forms of therapy. Reiki Practitioner does not diagnose nor prescribe – nor does ethics or law allow them to.

Babies, children & pregnant women can benefit immensly from Reiki. Reiki creates a soothing and comforting environment for the whole family. Most children are very open to the loving energy of Reiki and its endless possibilities and enjoy giving short treatments to themselves, their friends, family and pets. Reiki is very safe with no harmful side-effects.

Is Reiki a religious practice?

No, there is no dogma attached to Reiki. You do not have to believe or subscribe to any form of religion to benefit from Reiki.
