Hypnosis is a trained technique of conversation that creates a highly relaxed state of deep concentration. Hypnosis can be used to maximize skills, such as in sports, or for entertainment. Hypnosis can help clients do something they currently cannot do (such as reduce their stress) or to stop doing something that they currently do (such as smoking).
Hypnosis has been used for centuries for pain control. Even during the Civil War when pain medications and anesthetics weren’t available, surgeons often hypnotized injured soldiers before amputations.
There are many misconceptions surrounding hypnosis. Many people believe that people who are hypnotized are asleep or unconscious. This misunderstanding is attributed to the way it is portrayed on television or seen in stage entertainment. In fact, hypnosis creates a mind state where the client is even more focused than ever before! The belief that someone who is hypnotized surrenders their will or that the hypnotist can find out all of their ‘secrets’ is another wild misconception. Since the client is always in full control, and capable of making decisions at all times, they cannot be made to do or say anything out of character. Since they are in full control, they are equally as able to fib as to tell the truth. Some people believe that only weak-minded people can be hypnotized. The truth is, hypnosis requires the ability for concentration and focus and the best clients are the highly intelligent.
During a hypnosis session, a client will sit or lay in a position they find comfortable and talk to the hypnotist. During this time, the hypnotist will begin to make the client feel more relaxed and use conversational techniques to help the client go into a much deeper state of relaxation. This state of deep relaxation is where the hypnotist will guide the client to find solutions within their own mind or make suggestions that are individually tailored to the unique needs of the client. After hypnosis, a client can expect to feel wonderfully relaxed.
If you experience stress, anxiety, or other difficulties in your life or if you need help quit smoking or lose weight, Hypnosis may be just the method you need to successfully overcome the hurdles!
