Pregnancy and labour support
Are you aware that there is a simple way to help to alleviate stress and labour pain, and improve your soon-to-be-born baby’s health while also reducing the risk of complications? Studies support what more and more women are discovering about massage therapy during pregnancy – it has been shown to:
- improve maternal mood
- decrease depression and anxiety
- decrease pain
- decrease stress hormones in pregnant women (including those suffering from depression)
- decrease obstetrical complications, and improve neonatal health and development.
In addition, the overall benefit of improved mood to maternal and neonatal health has the potential to positively impact the health of individual mothers and children.
There is also evidence that massage therapy through the labour and birthing process helps to:
- decrease pain in all three stages of labour (latent, active, and transition)
- reduce anxiety in the latent stage
- reduce stress during labour
- increase the quality of your experience of childbirth
These immediate effects of massage therapy may affect other longer-term effects such as decreased length of labour, shorter hospital stay, less touch sensitivity and fewer instances of postpartum depression.
Your newborn baby benefits too: studies conclude that preterm (premature) infants receiving massage gain more weight and leave the hospital sooner. Massage therapy may also improve sleep patterns and behaviour in infants.

Thai hot stem massage
This treatment is relaxing and therapeutic at the same time! It includes a combination of techniques taken from Thai Yoga massage, Lomi Lomi, acupressure, shiatsu, lymphatic drainage, and energetic trainings. The stems are made of unbleached natural cotton and contain a number of organically-grown herbs, such as camphor, tamarind, sweet flag, mountain ebony leaves, somboil, jeang leaves, and eucalyptus. This massage not only improves the circulation, but is detoxifying, relives pain, and is anti-inflammatory. It also improves the energy flow which is responsible for mental and physical health. This treatment is great for anyone trying to detoxify, decrease fascial restrictions, reduce stress, and relieve muscular tightness or pain.
MediCupping therapy uses a machine with glass or plastic cups to create a light suction on the body surface, gently lifting the tissue layers. This produces a sedating effect on the nervous system and allows water absorption and renewed blood flow to dehydrated and undernourished tissue. As this happens, old waste and congestion is eliminated. It also helps pull inflammation and toxins from the body tissue, making it easier for the lymphatic system and skin to eliminate them. Furthermore, it can help to release deep scars and adhesions, fibrous tissue, or fascia that has retained memory from the incident or injury quickly and comfortably.
Vacuum therapies work nicely with the homeostatic mechanisms of the body. These techniques are used safely on children, adults, and elderly persons.
This therapy is great for pain reduction, scar reduction, releasing tight muscles and fascia, lymphatic drainage, detoxification, relaxation and cellulite reduction.
We offer daytime, evening, and weekend appointments for all services. To book an appointment, please call us at 905.829.0724.
