Trish Unruh

Registered Social Worker

I graduated with a Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto in 2004 and was a recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. I also have an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo where I focused on health behaviour. I hold a certificate in Trauma Counselling from the Hincks Dellcrest Centre and a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from OISE – University of Toronto/Hincks Dellcrest.  I also completed training in Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and have attended various workshops on trauma, anxiety, and substance abuse.  I have worked with clients from young adults to the elderly.

I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals dealing with chronic illness and who have recently had traumatic accidents.  I work with people in a counselling context to address issues such as coping with traumatic events, stress, anxiety, depression, adjustment to life changes, pain issues, caregiver stress, and sleep issues. My approach is primarily cognitive behavioural, but I also draw on other modalities to address the needs and goals of the client.  I strive to create a non-judgmental, supportive, and honest environment so people feel they have a safe place to express themselves and work on their goals.  I work collaboratively with my clients to ensure they have an active role in their therapy.
