Prevent the winter blues with massage therapy

Prevent the winter blues with massage therapy

Although winter is beautiful, many people experience fatigue and seasonal depression and lose the momentum to invest in their health. Massage therapy can be a great way to help relax, revive, and recharge your body from the stresses of winter.

The Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine conducted several studies researching the effects that massage therapy has on the stress hormone Cortisol. Cortisol can drive up blood pressure and blood sugar levels and suppress the immune system. The studies included 500 men, women, and children with depression or stress problems. Researchers measured Cortisol in participants before and immediately after massage and found that massage therapy lowered levels by up to 53%.  Massage also increased serotonin and dopamine, neutrotransmitters that help reduce depression. The studies concluded that massage therapy affects the body’s biochemistry and relieves depression and anxiety.

You can prevent the blues with regular massage therapy and soar in strength and joy!
