Description of classes
Note: Not all classes may be offered each month.
Bootcamp - Rebecca Hodson
A fitness class for beginners to advanced who want to increase their daily energy, reduce stress, increase feelings of well being, gain strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. Each class is an hour long and includes: warm-up, conditioning and full relaxing/renewing stretch.
Core & Posture - Dr. Carole Smith and Dr. Meghann Sammy
Having a strong core means more than just “six pack abs”. Core strength involves the muscles of the entire torso and pelvis. To maintain a strong and stable core, the emphasis should be on the endurance capabilities of the muscles of your back, abdominal wall, and the muscles supporting your shoulder blades (scapula), pelvic girdle and hamstrings. The core endurance class will focus on the postural muscles required for every day activities. Sitting at a desk, heavy lifting, recreational and sports activities all require core endurance to support the motions of the arms and legs. This class will provide you with exercises to improve your posture, and train the postural muscles you use every day. Join Chiropractor Dr. Carole Smith for a core endurance class and learn exercises that if performed daily can decrease back pain, and make you more agile. All exercises are adaptable to individual abilities. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that is non-restrictive. Feel free to bring your own stretching/yoga mat; we will have a few mats on site to provide cushion as well.
Fertility/Infertility Yoga - Rebecca Hodson
Both types of Yoga do the same thing but have different ways of getting to the desired outcome. If you are exhausted, then it would be beneficial to do the Infertility yoga. If you feel like challenging your body and need a bit more stimulation, then the fertility yoga is great. Both types are complimentary to each other and holistically help your mind/body connection reach a different level.
Both classes are for beginners to advanced.
Fertility Yoga will be a bit more challenging and expend more energy. You will learn poses that will increase the blood flow to your reproductive organs as well as re-set your body to improve hormone imbalances. There are restful poses near the end of class to calm obsessive thoughts and increase concentration.
Infertility Yoga is more relaxing and renewing in the sense of learning how to breath properly to induce the relaxation response. The relaxation response is important because it allows your body to turn the switch to the "on" for reproduction. It is great for anyone who is experiencing anxiety and out of control feelings. It is very nurturing and therefore increases your state of well being. It is also great for increasing the blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing hormones.
Classes are $10.00
Private Fertility/Infertility Yoga with or without counselling/consultation is available by appointment and is $85.00 for one and a half hours.
Infant Massage - Leah Rosso and Dr. Lesley D'Souza
A four week Infant Massage class will be offered at Your Health Wellness Centre hosted by Leah Karges RMT. Joining us for the infant massage class will be Dr. Lesley (Lesley D'Souza, ND) to field any questions or concerns regarding infant development.
Infant Massage for babies and toddlers is a wonderful bonding time for you and your child, helping to reduce stress, making you both feel wonderful! Infant massage can have many benefits, including encouraging brain development, better sleep, teething pain, gas and colic relief and even improved immunities.
Studies show that infant massage can be beneficial for mothers experiencing post-partum depression, by contributing to the production of "feel good" hormones.
Massaging your baby has many health benefits. It's also fun and provides your baby with a sense of security and physical comfort. Babies who are massaged regularly have been shown to have fewer upper respiratory infections. For more benefits, see here.
Generations of parents all over the world have used massage to promote their babies growth and development. Parents find that massaging their baby increases their joy in parenting.
Baby massage can be learned by anyone interested in having a loving relationship with babies or children. Adoptive parents, foster parents, and grandparents as well as other caretakers often find that massage helps them to build a relationship with a baby. Babies or children with special needs also benefit from massage, and it helps their caretakers to communicate with them.
- Week 1: Introducing touch with your infant
- Week 2: Abdominal massage and your infants Gastrointestinal tract
- Week 3: Baby joints, range of motion, and maintaining a healthy body
- Week 4: Everything you would want to know about infant massage and infant naturopathic care
Small class size will allow for abundant interaction between instructors and participants, with a ratio of one instructor to two mommies! Call soon to secure your place! Limited registration available.
Learn to run - Dr. Carole Smith
If you've always wanted to run but haven't known where to start, here’s a program that will teach you about running, nutrition, goal setting, how to avoid injury, pacing, and much more. This program will allow you to run/power walk comfortably without spending a great deal of time training or recovering! The goal is to have you able to run/power walk for 20 minutes by the end of this 10 week clinic with a gradual progression of run/powerwalk and walk breaks.
Get healthy and Reduce Stress!
YOUR HEALTH Kicks - Dr. Carole Smith
This aerobic workout can be done either low or high impact, with moves inspired by martial arts such as karate, boxing and muay thai and adaptations made for all ranges of abilities. The class begins with light stretches and a cardio warm up. Typical routines include a series of repetitive punches, hand strikes, kicks and other self-defense moves. Work out your stress and leave feeling great!
YOUR HEALTH Stretches - Christa Kelly
The goal of stretching is for your muscles to feel relaxed in an opened position, and this comes only with sustained holding of stretches where you can release tension and feel comfortable. Over the coming weeks and months, Christa will walk you through stretching the entire body in a safe and effective way, leaving you feeling looser than you have in ages. Any range of flexibility is welcomed and we will be demonstrating variations of popular stretches to adapt to your comfort level. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that is non-restrictive. Please feel free to bring your own stretching/yoga mat; we will have a few mats on site to provide cushion as well.
